OUR PROGRAMS
Summer Acting Conservatory
Six weeks that can change the way you think about acting.

Every summer, thousands of actors enroll in acting intensives hoping to improve their craft. Most leave having accumulated a few more exercises, but little understanding of what it truly means to train as an artist.
The Maggie Flanigan Studio approaches summer training differently.
We do not believe it is possible to become a complete actor in six weeks. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either misinformed or selling something that simply isn't true.
What six weeks can do is fundamentally change the way you approach your work and your understanding of the art of acting.
Our Six-Week Summer Acting Conservatory in New York City is designed to introduce actors to the discipline, imagination, specificity, and truthful process that define professional actor training. It is an immersive conservatory experience that provides a meaningful introduction to the Meisner Technique while allowing actors to experience the standards, expectations, and artistic philosophy that have made the Maggie Flanigan Studio one of the country's most respected actor training programs.
Whether you're beginning your professional training, preparing for graduate school, returning to the craft, or searching for a more rigorous artistic home — the Summer Acting Conservatory offers high standards, accountability, direct and constructive feedback, and a diverse community of serious actors. More importantly, it has the potential to fundamentally change your understanding of craft and artistry.
The Meisner Summer Intensive
At the center of the Summer Acting Conservatory is the Meisner Summer Intensive — an eighteen-class progression that introduces students to the first third of Sanford Meisner's first-year training.
Students begin with Meisner's foundational repetition exercise and gradually develop the actor's most essential skills: empathic listening, spontaneous behavior, truthful emotional life, and the ability to craft simple, specific, and personal circumstances.
Throughout the six weeks, students also begin applying this work to scene study, discovering how disciplined preparation creates the freedom to work truthfully under imaginary circumstances.
Although six weeks cannot produce a finished actor, it can establish a foundation that changes the trajectory of an artist's development for years to come.
A Complete Summer Conservatory Experience
Students may choose to expand their summer training by enrolling in additional conservatory classes designed to further develop every aspect of the actor's instrument.
Summer acting classes in New York City include:
Voice
Movement
Alexander Technique
Breathwork for Actors
Acting for the Camera
Improvisation
Together, these classes create a well-rounded conservatory experience that supports the actor's physical, vocal, emotional, and creative development.

Why Students Continue
Many of our Summer Intensive students choose to continue into the Two-Year Conservatory.
Not because six weeks wasn't enough.
Because they discover what a true conservatory education actually feels like.
They experience a conservatory built on discipline, imagination, truthful behavior, and artistic integrity. They begin to understand that becoming a compelling actor is not about shortcuts or quick results, but about developing a process that can sustain a lifetime devoted to the craft.
For many students, the Summer Conservatory becomes the beginning of a much deeper artistic journey.
What You'll Leave With
By the end of the Summer Acting Conservatory, students will have:
A strong introduction to the Meisner Technique
A deeper understanding of truthful acting
A practical process for creating behavior
Experience applying the work to scenes
Greater confidence in their artistic process
A clear understanding of what professional conservatory training requires
A better sense of whether the Maggie Flanigan Studio is the right artistic home for them

The Maggie Flanigan Studio Difference
The Summer Acting Conservatory is not designed for the casually curious or those looking for shortcuts.
It is for actors who believe acting is an art form.
Actors who are willing to challenge themselves, embrace discipline, and pursue the craft with seriousness and humility.
At the Maggie Flanigan Studio, we believe great actors are not born. They are developed through years of rigorous training, thoughtful mentorship, and an unwavering commitment to artistic truth.
For many actors, the Summer Conservatory is more than six weeks of training. It is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to the craft.
