LANE KWEDERIS

Alexander Technique & Somatic Practice

Lane Kwederis is an AmSAT-certified Alexander Technique Teacher and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) whose work helps actors cultivate greater presence, ease, and freedom in both performance and everyday life. As both a performer and educator, Lane integrates the Alexander Technique, Somatic Experiencing®, and breath-centered movement practices to help actors release habitual tension, regulate the nervous system, and develop a more responsive, embodied instrument.

In addition to teaching at the Maggie Flanigan Studio, Lane teaches Alexander Technique through the Riverside Initiative for Alexander Technique at the Sapientia Initiative and serves as an assistant teacher alongside Teva Bjerken at The New School. She also maintains a private practice and teaches workshops in Alexander Technique and Somatic Experiencing for performers and artists.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

“I was placed in the intense reigns of Charlie Sandlan.  I became a better artist, actor, friend, sibling and daughter because of the studio. Even now, I crave the studio every day. What I learned is present in my work every day. I truly believe in everything they stand for.”

Maggie taught me that I could control my work, my acting, and to throw all of the bullshit out that I had in my head about ‘what I should be doing’ and to just listen and respond honestly, in the moment. She gave me a craft. She is, quite simply put, THE BEST.”

Maggie Flanigan taught me the true meaning of artistry, passion, and professionalism. I am certain that I continue to work as an actress because of my training with Maggie. At every audition and every performance, her guiding voice is with me. It is a gift beyond measure.”

Philosophy

An actor's presence begins long before they speak.

How you breathe, move, organize yourself, and respond to the world shapes every aspect of your work. The Alexander Technique teaches that many of the limitations actors experience are not a lack of talent, but habits of unnecessary tension that interfere with natural expression.

My goal is to help actors develop greater awareness of those habits so they can move through the world—and their work—with more freedom, balance, and ease. By integrating Alexander Technique with Somatic Experiencing, students learn not only to release physical holding patterns but also to cultivate a more regulated nervous system and a deeper sense of trust in themselves.

When unnecessary effort falls away, the actor becomes more present, more available, and more capable of truthful, spontaneous behavior.

I believe that developing your body and nervous system is not separate from developing your artistry. As your relationship with yourself becomes more grounded and integrated, your ability to connect, communicate, and create deepens as well.
