In 2001, Maggie founded the studio…

After 18 years as William Esper’s most distinguished teacher both at Rutgers’ MFA acting program and in his NYC classroom, Maggie made the decision to open her own studio in NYC.

Teaching acting as an art form…

2005 was a significant year for MFS with the arrival of Charlie Sandlan. In Charlie, Maggie had found an artist like herself; one who viewed teaching as an art form, someone also willing to commit their life to becoming exceptional at preserving and teaching the Meisner technique.

Maggie and Charlie work together…

Over the next seven years, from 2006 to 2012, Charlie and Maggie worked to fulfill her vision of a rigorous and comprehensive MFA caliber training program. Our Theater History, Script Analysis, Film History, Anatomy For Actors, Business I, II classes have helped establish MFS as the gold standard of professional actor training.

Preserving a legacy…

Charlie took over full control of the studio in 2012 and found a way to expand our space while still keeping to Maggie’s commitment to a small, intimate artistic home. The addition of a student lounge, a reading room, and a Film & TV classroom was the final piece in bringing together a physical space to match the level of training Maggie envisioned.

A Valued Reputation

The Maggie Flanigan Studio is proud to be NYC’s most respected professional actor training program. For over 15 years we have welcomed aspiring actors interested in going the distance with themselves; risk-takers who want to feel safe, nurtured, and yet pushed in a way they could have never imagined in order to realize their fullest artistic potential. Dedicated to preserving the Meisner technique, Maggie and now Charlie continue the direct lineage of Sanford Meisner’s teaching tree.
