Nutrition For Actors: New Training Course for Actors

The Maggie Flanigan Studio welcomes the addition of a new faculty member Lianna Nielsen. The studio proudly announces the creation of a groundbreaking new training “Nutrition For Actors”. The new course is a 12 week, 12 class approach to the actor’s relationship to food and how it influences the creative process.

The studio believes that any serious actor takes great care of their instrument. The challenge for any serious actor and artist is in understanding that the entirety of the human body is the instrument of their expression. This includes voice, body, and emotional temperament. The Maggie Flanigan Studio believes that this means the rejection of the romanticized cliché of “the suffering artist.”

Lianna Neilsen Nutrition for Actors

Studio nutritionist Lianna Nielsen says, “The more you start to understand how to listen to your body and decipher your cravings, the more you understand what you specifically need and how that will support your creativity. This puts you on the road to being your healthiest and happiest, and will make you more connected to your creative voice”.

Executive Director and Head of Acting, Charlie Sandlan has made the development of a complete artist the cornerstone of the studio’s approach to professional acting training. Sandlan says, “When I was young, I thought that great art could only be made through great pain and suffering. We romanticize influential artists like Jim Morrison, Anne Sexton, Diane Arbus, Kurt Cobain, Philip Seymour Hoffman. I don’t think that addiction and trauma are prerequisites for becoming a substantial artist. The imagination is the most powerful creative attribute, and I believe that the work is challenging enough. A healthy instrument just seems more conducive to creative inspiration”.
