Listening
The eighteen month acting program at the Maggie Flanigan Studio is based on the Meisner technique, the life work of Sanford Meisner. In this video, Charlie briefly discusses the ability that the best actors have to truly listen to what is being said to them, and then to respond.

Listening – 18 Month Meisner Acting Program – Maggie Flanigan Studio
The bedrock of acting is listening. Everything that you do as an actor rests on your ability to be able to listen to what’s being said to you. Now, most actors, they don’t listen, What many actors do, certainly untrained ones, is they wait for their cues. “I don’t care what you’re saying to me, just give me my cue so I can act, so I can perform.” The best actors have the ability to get the attention off themselves and really listen to what’s being said to them, to not just what’s being said but how you are being talked to. It is the ability to hear subtext, to be able to respond to subtext.
This is what keeps you fresh. It keeps you fresh night after night after night, take after take after take, is your ability to be able to go from unanticipated moment to unanticipated moment, to listen, to take in and respond.
